The main building on Ayers Island grew out of a series of buildings that grew into one large building. In total this structure has something like 360,000 square feet (approximately 9 acres) of floor space. The oldest building in the complex dates back to 1907. This was a time of great construction activity in Central Maine. Apparently a large group of Italian masons arrived in Central Maine and built many interesting industrial buildings including the Ayers Island building, various mills in the Millinocket area, and the Waterworks in Bangor. These masons included many artistic touches such as arches over all the windows and an octagonal base for one of the chimneys. The construction was quite rugged and much of it is rated at 300 pounds per square foot. The youngest part of the main building was built in 1966. This part includes a section with 9 offices and a bathroom, as well as a large empty room. All told there are approximately 40,000 square feet in this section. It is our hope to get this space operational relatively soon. If you are interested in renting space in the Main Building please contact us. Below are some views of the Main Building.
